Grand Cayman is famously known as a diver’s paradise. The soft sand flats filled with stingrays extend out into the sea just past the reef, then plummets into the abyss of even more colorful sea life. On land it’s not ugly either (duh), and I know now why Kait picked this island to wed her sweet Joe from Arizona. The week kicked off with me boarding a white speed yacht that buzzed me out to board a private catamaran filled with raucous wedding folk. It was an entrance found in a vintage Bond flick. The crew and guests played with friendly stingrays all day until the sun sank and wind filled our sail back to shore. What an experience!
We have done quite a number of destination weddings, as my spirit of adventure usually matches up well. This is a particularly special relationship for me as I have been invited along on a number of family trips over the years by Kait’s brother Eric. Instead of the usual instigator of trouble, ‘island Eric’ transformed into a near-prince and had the opportunity to marry his sister off, a feat punctuated by rivers of sweat and tears. What a site Kait was! She picked the perfect dress complete with fabulous hair and make-up that stayed where it needed to all day in the sun. Joe had a little extra swag this day and he surrounds himself with quality people. After Joe picked his jaw up from the sand after seeing Kait, the two said ‘I do’ and sent off lanterns into the midnight sky. I had goosebumps.
The next day, Kait put on her dress, borrowed a small sail boat, and we headed out to sea once again. This time we had the intention of diving in, dress and all, while an audience gathered on shore to watch what we would create. These might be some of my best work to date and what a thrill the week was! Enjoy reliving it all!
