Grand Cayman is famously known as a diver’s paradise. The soft sand flats filled with stingrays extend out into the sea just past the reef, then plummets into the abyss of even more colorful sea life. On land it’s not ugly either (duh), and I know now why Kait picked this island to wed her sweet Joe from Arizona. The week kicked off with me boarding a white speed yacht that buzzed me out to board a private catamaran filled with raucous wedding folk. It was an entrance found in a vintage Bond flick. The crew and guests played with friendly stingrays all day until the sun sank and wind filled our sail back to shore. What an experience!

We have done quite a number of destination weddings, as my spirit of adventure usually matches up well. This is a particularly special relationship for me as I have been invited along on a number of family trips over the years by Kait’s brother Eric. Instead of the usual instigator of trouble, ‘island Eric’ transformed into a near-prince and had the opportunity to marry his sister off, a feat punctuated by rivers of sweat and tears. What a site Kait was! She picked the perfect dress complete with fabulous hair and make-up that stayed where it needed to all day in the sun. Joe had a little extra swag this day and he surrounds himself with quality people. After Joe picked his jaw up from the sand after seeing Kait, the two said ‘I do’ and sent off lanterns into the midnight sky. I had goosebumps.

The next day, Kait put on her dress, borrowed a small sail boat, and we headed out to sea once again. This time we had the intention of diving in, dress and all, while an audience gathered on shore to watch what we would create. These might be some of my best work to date and what a thrill the week was! Enjoy reliving it all!

When you are wild about wine, there is no more perfect place to have a party with all your favorite people than Napa Valley, California. Janelle got to come along on this adventure and officiate this epic event for two sweethearts that are meant to pair together like fine wine. Alex’s heart for others is what catches your attention and each element of this day was so well planned out with thoughtful touches for each guest’s experience. Roger is an all-American guy with a sweet soul.

When the two invited me to join them in California, I counted down the days until we got to explore the vineyards! The Carneros Resort & Spa impressed everyone from the blends to the views; guests were floored all weekend long. The resort found a unique way to pair farmhouse and modern together to create quite the retreat from the bustle of the city life in San Francisco. To add to the fun, I got to hang with the talents of John Hoel from our Living Room Studios family, and a dear college friend, Jeffrey Purganan, whom had photographed Janelle and I in San Diego during our engagement season. What a dream team of creative friends! We laughed hard and explored the valley to catch the last rays of light. As the sun set, the party was just getting going and people danced so hard that a late night dip in the pool was inevitable.

After a marathon engagement session around Minneapolis, I just knew this was a special bond, for all of us. Barbara and Mike have that ‘it’ factor that fairy tales are made of and I was honored to continue the journey with them in God’s country of Sedona. Everyone I talk to seems to have a love affair with this part of the world, and now I see why! From the red cliffs to the lush trees that encased the river, Sedona has it all. The river was such a statement piece, that Barbara and Mike decided to rent a cabin on a small ranch and welcomed guests to enjoy a rehearsal night of laughter and wine while looking for trout. The wedding day was nothing short of spectacular as the canyon got to show off its’ greatness overhead as they said their vows. We enjoyed the views all the way up until darkness fell and the lights over the dance floor started to sparkle. What a night celebrating with friends who feel like family! Thank you all.
