Megan and Luke Engagement

This job takes me to the most amazing places all over the world, but sometimes, the most amazing place is in your home state. Luke is a commercial fisherman in Grand Marais and when he describes what he does it sounds like an episode of Deadliest Catch. He’s on the boat from sunup to sundown and during their dating relationship, Megan would join him there for dates and learn some tricks of the trade. When we started talking about an engagement session, I suggested we show off a day in the life and I would join them on the boat in the beautiful Grand Marais.

We timed it perfectly, at the end of herring season right before one of the best sunsets of the year. He wanted to show off what Grand Marais had to offer, so we started their session along the rocky shores and epic coastline. Their dogs joined us and we enjoyed the scenery as we strolled around by the historic lighthouse. Then it was time for a wardrobe change, but not in the way you would think. They both dawned bright orange slickers, gloves, and warm weather gear. Then we all jumped on Luke’s boat where his friend offered to be captain so he could keep his eyes on the most important thing there, Megan. She really is the perfect deckhand. They tossed nets out into the cold choppy waters and he watched with admiration as she selected the fish with ease and experience. Once the sun dipped below the horizon, we made our way back to shore to watch the setting sun. We ended the evening with dinner and a beer at the local pub and shared fishing stories, as one does.
