The Vick's Greek-Island-Moon
From the day my wife Janelle and I were married, we committed to not just one honeymoon, but rather a lifestyle of honeymooning. Next up on our dream list was Greece!
Many see Athens then dart straight for Santorini, but we decided to hit five islands by ferry all for different reasons. Each island holds a special place in our heart and it was fascinating that each had found out their own way to ferment what was growing and turn it into alcohol!
We traveled over Easter and one of our highlights was the island of Tinos. When you arrive in port, you will see a carpeted climb up the hill that leads straight into a church and that holds a photo of Mother Mary, one of the most amazing miracles in all of Greece. During Easter, this is the spot to be. Lambs are prepared on skewers across the city and when the clock strikes midnight, firecrackers ring out and the fasting breaks into a midnight feast and dancing! We were adopted into a home stay and will always remember this incredible night and family as we sang songs around a table of strangers and ate until we nearly burst.
The second highlight was the island of Mykonos. It’s known for windmills that glow at night as they protect a vibrant maze of a city's nightlife and clubs. All the world comes to these shores to dance the night away. Our favorite part of our time here was taking an ATV around the unchartered trails of the arid side of the island. It looked like something out of the old testament and the sun seemed to shine with a little extra bright.
We finished our journey in Santorini with it’s beautiful cliff dwellings famously painted a brilliant white. In fact, if you want to ensure a solid business, go into paint supply in Santorini because the painting crews were as plentiful as the alley cats looking for any warm lap on which to call home. We look forward to coming back in warmer times as winds hit 50 mph and temps maxed out at 60F, so it was a chilly visit to this famous island. We squeezed the most out of this Greek-Island-Moon and we knew you simply can't beat these views! Enjoy a look into our adventures and this incredible place that my camera tried to do justice.
