Catherine and Joe
Wedding Date: February 17th 2023
I have so many amazing memories throughout the city and in different venues both near and far from home, but Theodore Wirth Chalet holds some of my favorites. This is where grandma and my mother both learned to ski and where I would come to practice myself. The chalet was where we would sip hot chocolate and talk about the day's adventures. Now, this special place holds a new adventure in its history, the wedding of Catherine and Joe.
I met them through fellow local ski enthusiasts and knew they were kindred spirits. Skiers tend to be very chill and have a great sense of humor so I knew their day was going to be a blast from start to finish. We began at the home where Cat grew up and when I saw her wedding snow boots it brought a huge smile to my face. I could tell these two were in it for a great time! She put on her finishing touches before we all ventured over to their family church. She walked down the aisle with a huge smile across her face as she walked toward Joe who was waiting at the other end with an equally wide grin. When the ceremony was over, we stayed a few moments longer to take in the evening sun coming in through the stained glass windows.
Back at the chalet, friends and family gathered to welcome the happy couple and of course, break out the shotski! The historic walls smelled of the crackling fire and I swear I could hear conversations from all the good times that were had within these walls. The evening began with toasts that were filled with love and laughter and the dance floor began to fill with smiling faces.
I asked to sneak them away for a few minutes and whispered, “the snow looks pretty great out there…” That’s all it took and Joe ran over to the corner where he had stored their skis for this very moment. They put on their boots and we hiked to the top of the hill with the snow crunching beneath our feet as the last light of day faded below the horizon. With the slopes all to themselves, they clipped in and whooshed down the hill making perfect s-shaped turns that criss-crossed each other's tracks in the snow. The city skyline lit up the background and their smiles lit up the entire day.
