Kristina and David

Wedding Date: August 24th 2024

Kristina and David’s wedding was truly one for the history books, and it was an incredible honor to be a part of it. Over the years, Kristina and her family have become like family to us. We’ve known Kristina since before she met David, and it’s been amazing to see how she lights up with him in her life. David was introduced to Kristina through her sister, and now they call Boston home. I had the chance to photograph their engagement session in Boston last fall, and when they started planning their wedding, I was honored to be one of their first calls to lock in dates. I’ve been a super fan of them for a long time, so I knew this was going to be something special.

David is a kind old soul with music running through his veins, and you can see the depth of his heart just by looking into his eyes. Kristina’s care, thoughtfulness, and whimsy make the world feel a little more balanced, and together, they make even the birds in the air happier…literally. They both love birds, and we even went birding during their engagement session. They have this incredible way of appreciating the little things in life that most people overlook, and it’s such a joy to witness.

Kristina has a deep family connection to Bayfield and Madeline Island, and when they discovered Wild Rice Retreat Center, it felt like the perfect fit for their peaceful, nature-inspired wedding. They even asked if the center would be open to hosting their first-ever wedding, and with help from my wife Janelle and Kristina, they crafted the ultimate guest experience. Every thoughtful detail was covered, and the unique property, with its pod cabins, yoga, sauna, and wellness-focused atmosphere, added to the calming, peaceful vibe they wanted for their wedding.

I kicked off their wedding weekend with a bit of birding myself, taking in the stunning scenery along the water. Meanwhile, Kristina got ready with her girls in one of the cozy cabins, while David and the guys played poker to start the party vibes. The sounds of nieces, nephews, and friends filled the air, adding to the already joyful atmosphere.

Kristina chose to see David for the first time at the overlook by the shore, asking for a break from the cameras so they could have a private moment to check in with each other. The second they saw one another, they were all smiles, completely in sync. Afterward, we joined their colorful wedding party in the woods for some fun and photos.

The ceremony itself was set in a peaceful outdoor wooded area, with playful pops of orange that added a vibrant touch to the natural setting. Kristina and David were beyond excited to exchange their vows and you could see it and feel it in their every move. Their family gathered around them, ready to send them off into this next chapter of life. When they were pronounced married, cheers echoed through the woods, and even the birds joined in the celebration!

As a special treat, they hired a falconer! Watching Kristina hold a falcon on her arm was amazing and there was mad respect between the two of them. Kristina’s beauty was matched only by the elegance of the falcon. It was such a cool and unique moment that fit perfectly with the day.

Their reception was held in a clear tent that blended nature with modern pops of color for a perfect balance that reflected who they are as a couple. Every detail was intentional, and it looked stunning. Family and friends took turns giving heartfelt toasts, filling the tent with laughter and love. It was such an honor to witness the outpouring of emotion and celebration for these two.

As the sun sparkled through the clear tent, it eventually gave way to the glow of café lights as the dancing began. They brought in a band from the cities, and no one wanted to leave the dance floor, especially David, who was in his element. The hospitality and the food were top-notch, and everyone raved about the thoughtfulness that went into every moment of the day. Kristina and David’s wedding was peaceful, joyful, and full of love, a perfect reflection of who they are. It was such a joy to be a part of their adventure, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
